Sarah Palin and John Winthrop
The conception of America as the "city upon a hill" was not the handiwork of Ronald Reagan, or indeed of any other paladin of the Republican Party.

After watching the debate, I am convinced that if the country somehow has a collective mental meltdown and elects Sarah Palin, she will be even more dangerous than Cheney.
When I hear Sarah Palin consistently fail to answer who is doing what to whom, it makes me suspicious that a) she doesn't know; b) she doesn't want to say; or c) she simply doesn't think in terms of cause and effect.
Hillary Clinton and Geraldine Ferraro had ideas you could disagree with. But Sarah Palin is perky and inscrutable at once, you betcha. She talks. We listen but we have no idea what's been said.
Why is this child up so late every time there is a camera op? Why isn't this baby sleeping in a crib or bassinet somewhere with a sleep sheep or some other sound apparatus lulling him into night-night?
Governor Palin, in fact, took no leadership role to fight for Darfur divestment; she dismissed pleas for help and only changed her position in 2008.
I know Sarah Palin because I went to school with her. And, in fact, most women did. Then, the Queen Bees or Mean Girls were just that. Now, they're really scary.
Tonight, Joe Biden showed why he is the right person for that job. On question after question, he demonstrated knowledge, careful thought, and a willingness to make hard decisions.
George Will, Kathleen Parker, David Frum, Sen. Chuck Hagel, former Sen. Lincoln Chafee, Charles Krauthammer. . .Who else should be added to this list?
As Palin continued with her non-answers, winks, and jibes, there was no way to conclude anything but -- this woman has no idea what she's talking about.
Weeks after Joe Biden's election to congress, his wife and daughter would perish and I would write a note of condolence. Though the letter is long gone, his response back to me has been kept for 36 years.
CNN had a graph running along the bottom of the screen during the debate, allegedly representing the moment-by-moment feelings of a group of independent voters. This is no way to watch a debate.
Michael Dobbs and the Washington Post's awarding of two "Pinocchios" -- for "significant omissions or exaggerations" -- to Joe Biden for his health care exchange with Gov. Palin was just plain off the mark.
Palin's answers to these questions showed that she just plain doesn't know what the Constitution says about the office she's running for.
Sarah Palin has experience being a runner-up -- which will come in handy in November. Tonight she barely kept up. By any rational assessment, Palin wasn't up to the job.
Every time Palin mentions Alaska, add a few ice cubes to whatever you are drinking. Every time Palin fidgets and twists her fingers, switch drinks with the person next to you.

I just wanted to share my opinion about the vice presidential dabates. Joe Biden won because he was so sincere, intelligent, and respectful. He is someone Americans should be very proud to elect. As a European, I wish I could vote in the real election, not only online. Even I whose native language is not English, understood the meaningless, memorized sentences that Sarah Palin was giving in her speech last night. She didn't answer the questions, she was trying to go around and around what she had memorized, and it didn't bother her that she didn't answer the moderator's questions. I wonder how she can get even the vote of 20% in this online poll. How desperate McCain must have been to select her! I wish Obama and Joe Biden luck.
You have to admit, Miss Sarah makes good material for SNL.
how true. She was taught well in those days in AZ. but, when she speaks without help and training, well, you know the story. JM will keep her away from the msm...it looks bad for hi either way. He knows he will lose, but why make the campaign look like a joke...oh, sorry, SNL already did that.

Wow, that flow chart must have taken some time . . . not even I could have made sense of that muddle type of thinking.
Palin has thrown many stones in the short time that she has been McCain"s running mate. Meanwhile she practices avoidance and refusal when she is cornered. The truth is that she is a privileged woman, in a glass house, approaching a glass ceiling. No one knows if she can get through the glass ceiling with her glass house intact (despite the 18 million cracks made by Hillary). We do know that, having thrown so many stones, the glass house she lives in is a vulnerability and easy target. God forbid that her glass house breaks when she finds herself in the position of having to take over the presidency of the USA. If Palin becomes our VP, it is likely that she will continue to evade issues and persist in being above reproach. A bigger concern is that the expectations for women and the entire country will be unrealistic and unimaginable.
